Proctólogo en Tijuana: colon and rectal care in Zona Río

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to what people ask most before booking with a proctologist.

FAQ

Before your first visit

What does a proctologist treat?

A proctologist, or colorectal surgeon, diagnoses and treats diseases of the colon, rectum and anus: hemorrhoids, fissures, fistulas, abscesses, constipation, diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer, and performs colonoscopy.

Is the exam painful or embarrassing?

The exam is brief and done with care; when something hurts, instruments are avoided. It is a routine part of this specialty and is carried out in private.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly. If you have previous studies such as a colonoscopy, lab work or imaging, bring them.

Do you see patients from the United States?

Yes. The office is in Tijuana’s Zona Río, minutes from the San Ysidro border crossing, and care is available in English.

How much does a visit cost?

Fees are given when you book, by phone or WhatsApp, because they depend on the type of visit and the studies required.

What should I bring?

Photo ID, a list of the medications you take and any previous studies. If you are coming from the US, bring your passport to cross back.

How long does the first visit take?

Plan for 30 to 45 minutes, including the conversation, the exam and time for your questions.

FAQ

Symptoms and when to come

Is rectal bleeding always hemorrhoids?

No. Hemorrhoids are the most common cause, but fissures, polyps, inflammation and cancer also bleed. Any bleeding that repeats should be examined.

When is it an emergency?

Heavy bleeding, bleeding with dizziness, severe abdominal pain with vomiting, or a painful anal lump with fever need an emergency department, not an appointment.

At what age should I have a colonoscopy?

At 45 for people at average risk, and earlier when there is a family history of colorectal cancer or polyps.

FAQ

Procedures and recovery

Are procedures outpatient?

Most office procedures and anorectal surgeries are outpatient. Colon surgery requires a few days in hospital.

Will I get instructions in writing?

Yes. Preparation, medication and aftercare are given in writing, with a phone number for questions.

Do you accept insurance?

Coverage depends on your policy. Ask when you book and we will tell you which documents are needed for reimbursement.
