Anal warts and HPV in Tijuana: confidential care, clear answers
Small bumps around or inside the anus are common and treatable. They are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), and seeing a specialist early makes treatment simpler.

Anal Warts (HPV) Treatment
Anal warts, or condylomas, are growths caused by certain types of HPV, a very common virus transmitted by skin-to-skin contact. They may be tiny or grow into clusters, outside the anus, inside the canal or both.
Most are caused by low-risk HPV types, but other types are linked to precancerous changes in the anal canal. That is why the evaluation looks inside as well as outside, and why follow-up matters after the warts are gone.
Common symptoms
- Small flesh-colored or pink bumps
- Itching or moisture around the anus
- Light bleeding when wiping
- A feeling of a lump in the area
- Often no symptoms at all
The diagnosis is confirmed at your evaluation.
How anal warts are treated
From the simplest to the most specialized; we only move forward if needed.
Complete evaluation
External exam and anoscopy to find lesions inside the canal that cannot be seen from outside.
Topical treatment
Prescription creams or solutions applied to small external warts over several weeks.
Removal
Cauterization or surgical excision for larger warts and those inside the anal canal, usually as an outpatient.
Follow-up
Scheduled reviews in the following months, because the virus can cause new lesions even after successful treatment.
How it is diagnosed
Diagnosis is made by examination. Removed tissue can be sent for pathology to rule out precancerous changes. The visit is private and without judgment; you will also receive guidance on vaccination and on when partners should be examined.
What people ask most
Does treating the warts cure HPV?
Treatment removes the visible lesions. The body usually clears the virus over time, but warts can return in the meantime, which is why follow-up visits are part of the plan.
Is the HPV vaccine useful if I already have warts?
It does not treat existing warts, but it protects against HPV types you have not been exposed to. It is worth discussing during your visit.
Are anal warts related to cancer?
Most warts come from low-risk HPV types. Some high-risk types can cause precancerous changes, so a full exam and pathology of removed tissue are recommended.
